Your garden never ceases to amaze! Maybe consider native coral honeysuckle, Lonicera sempervirens, instead of trumpet vine. It is hardy to zone 4, fast growing, and gorgeous. Hummingbirds love it so much, and it’s far less aggressive than trumpet vine. Mine is partly evergreen, and it has blooms every month of the year except January, with loads of blooms in spring through summer. (I’m in north GA, so warmer than you - it might not remain evergreen and have winter blooms in KS.)

Suggestion: Turn the ladder, so it is up against the side of the door. An old shoe on top and another lying on it's side on the step below. Old paint bucket with beatifil colours with a paint brush in.

My opinion: I don’t think you need to add anything to the side-no rose, no trumpet vine, PLEASE don’t do trumpet vine or wisteria. Adding a plant will take away from the shutter in that side.

I love the sight of my chickens in my garden, poking out from under bushes. However, they do scratch the ground. I would suggest like others smaller breeds like silkies or bantams.
